Tacit
Knowledge
We’re on a mission to help children enjoy learning now and always as a life-long pursuit. Through research-based media, we nurture learning of languages, cultures, and the arts.
We support “tacit knowledge”—expertise instilled through experience and deeper learning. It is a mastery that appears instinctual and is often hard to transfer or describe—such as speaking a native language or in-game coaching. Tacit knowledge was first coined in the 1950s by science philosopher, Michael Polanyi, who explained “we can know more than we call tell.” The concept later expanded to explaining innovative behavior in organizations (Nonaka, 1991).
We believe that young children may know more than they can tell, especially during their formative years as emergent readers, writers, learners of a language, interest, or skill. We are committed to delivering engaging, content-specific, and age-appropriate content to children everywhere and to foster a love of learning. Tacit knowledge or mastery is the concept for which this organization is named.
